German SaaS company rankingCoach announced this week that it has sold its marketing services agency Fairrank to publishing house Müller Medien in order to focus on its growing its SaaS business through web hosting partnerships. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Based in Nuremburg, Germany, Müller Medien is a global media company and is the publisher of the Gelbe Seiten (Yellow Pages).

“With the sale of Fairrank we made a consistent separation of service products and software solutions,” Daniel Wette, CEO of rankingCoach said. “With rankingCoach as our premier brand we expect strong international growth. Our goal is to be represented in all relevant markets worldwide by the end of 2015.”

For small businesses, SEO can be complicated and confusing, particularly as Google continues to adjust its search algorithms. rankingCoach helps small businesses improve SEO on their websites and rank higher in search results. The software checks a website, creating a “task list” for the site owner to complete.

The company has 40,000 customers in Germany alone and 25 employees.

“The SaaS model is rapidly changing a consolidating global hosting market,” Frank Hölzle of rankingCoach’s lead investor Wecken & Cie said. “Along with collaboration software and security products, tools like rankingCoach that put the customer’s success at the foreground give the best chance to further develop customer relations, as well as acquire new customers.”

According to the announcement on Monday, the sale of Fairrank enabled rankingCoach to secure a seven-digit financing round to support its planned growth and partnerships with hosting companies across Europe, Asia and the US, where rankingCoach plans to open an office in 2015.

“With our easy and comprehensive online marketing tools we allow hosting companies to offer their end-customers what every website owner wishes for – success on the Internet,” rankingCoach COO Thomas Meierkord said. “Webhosters therefore have more cross-selling potential, and will increase their customer satisfaction and retention.”

Over the past 12 months, rankingCoach has developed partnerships with web hosts including KPN, Deutsche Telekom and Strato AG.
