Zogmo Creates Houston Peering Fabric

March 1, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Server colocation and Web hosting service provider Zogmo (zogmo.com) announced on Thursday that it has created the HoustonIX, the first public peering fabric in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area.

The peering fabric enables Internet service providers in Houston, home to several of the largest data centers in the world, to exchange Internet traffic at a neutral point.

According to Zogmo, the project is powered by Cisco networking hardware with FastE, GigE and 10Gig connections. It provides low-latency connections to Houston-based servers and provides residents of Houston with a faster connection to a variety of Web destinations, particularly those located physically in the city.

“We have been discussing and planning a robust peering fabric for about 18 months, and we are excited to not only serve the residents of Houston, but also the tens of thousands of customers who have servers located in Houston data centers,” said Linn Boyd, vice president of operations for Zogmo. “Until now, Houston was the largest metropolitan area in the nation to not have a public peering fabric in place.”

Zogmo says it will manage the peering fabric, and will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the service.
