(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Giving companies the tools to deliver extra computing power, software-based application traffic management provider Zeus Technology (www.zeus.com) has made its flagship web traffic management solution, Zeus Traffic Manager 6.0, available for Amazon Web Services’ (aws.amazon.com) Elastic Compute Cloud (known as Amazon EC2) as a pay-as-you-go service.
Zeus provides a simple, web-based interface that lets users monitor and control web traffic and automate maintenance to ensure online services are always fast and available even during peaks periods. According to its Tuesday announcement, Zeus is packaged on Amazon EC2 as an Amazon Machine Image, a template from which virtual machines can be created. Users create one or more “instances” of this AMI, where each is a Virtual Appliance with Zeus software pre-installed. Companies simply need to log on to the instance and configure it to use Zeus Traffic Manager 6.0, and pay per hour of use.
Martin Gill, director of UK charity digital service provider HomeMade Digital (www.homemadedigital.com), said organizations that need to quickly respond to emergencies have to scale their IT infrastructure to handle extra web traffic seamlessly. “We’ve recently rolled out the full functionality offered by Zeus Traffic Manager 6.0 in the Amazon Web Services Cloud, as we feel it’s the best solution available to help us do exactly what we need,” Gill said in a statement. “By scaling fast when needs arise, reducing page response times and data transfer costs, we’re able to keep our client’s hardware costs to a minimum while still providing a very high quality of service.”
AWS business development director Terry Wise said he is pleased Zeus is using AWS to extend Amazon’s cloud infrastructure. “Amazon EC2 provides an ideal environment to help meet the demands of services like Zeus Traffic Manager, while providing on demand pricing that is cost efficient,” he said in a statement.
Zeus Technology chief executive officer Paul Brennan said Traffic Manager 6.0 will benefit enterprises that need sophisticated web traffic management, especially at the planning or production stages of development. “Offering our solution on the Amazon Web Services Cloud gives customers the ability to tap into extra power for very little cost even during these early stages of development,” Brennan said in a statement. “Our unique software architecture addresses this need, making it an ideal fit for any application, whether they are currently operating in Amazon on EC2 or designed for future migration to the Cloud.”
