According to the Yankee Group, the finalization of the merger on May 7 signaled the end of an era and the start of a new chapter in enterprise computing. The new combined server and storage product lines will give the company a boost in the competition against infrastructure providers like Sun Microsystems and IBM, and against storage solution providers like Dell and EMC.

But the merger also raises questions about the fates of product lines, the merging of two separate company cultures and the need for HP to articulate a long-term vision of how the companies? products will fit together into one brand.

“For enterprise customers, now is the time to assess the impact the merged company will have on IT strategies, especially on longer-term server and storage relationships that have been built up over the last decade,” says Jamie Gruener, senior analyst and author of the report.
