Yahoo Boosts Email Storage Capacity

The news comes just over a month after Google (google.com) announced it was testing Gmail, a new free email service featuring an unprecedented 1GB of storage space. Analysts say Yahoo is keen to show that is ready to take on Google, who recently filed for an initial public offering with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The amount of storage space being offered was not made public by Yahoo, but reports say that the figure will be quite comparable to Google’s 1GB. Yahoo’s free email subscribers currently have a maximum of 4MB of storage space. Premium subscribers receive up to 100MB for $50 per year.

The increases are also being offered to Yahoo subscribers through Internet service providers such as SBC Communications (sbc.com).
