July 13, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to reports, Internet portal Yahoo (yahoo.com) has acquired OddPost (oddpost.com), a Web-based email service. Financial terms of the deal were not made available.

OddPost’s email service, priced at $30 a year, features an email interface that is similar to desktop applications such as Microsoft Outlook.

OddPost said its email service would continue to operate without any interruptions. The company said it is now focusing on building new additions to Yahoo mail.

The battle in the Web-based email space has intensified in recent months after Google released Gmail with an unprecedented 1GB of storage space. Yahoo quickly followed, upping the storage allotment for its free email service to 100MB and Microsoft recently followed suit, similarly announcing plans to boost the storage space for its Hotmail accounts.
