August 17, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Internet portal and Web hosting provider Yahoo! (yahoo.com) announced on Tuesday that it is now offering domain names for $9.95 per year. In conjunction with the announcement, the company said it has upgraded its Web hosting and email plans.
"Yahoo! is addressing this rapidly growing marketplace with a superior product offering from a brand they can trust," says Rich Riley, vice president and general manager of Yahoo!. "We continue to innovate and deliver enhanced domain, email and Web hosting products at competitive prices to make it easy for consumers and small businesses to stake their claim on the Internet."
The new domain offering comes with toll free 24-hour phone support, use of a control panel, a starter Web page, POP and Webmail access, SpamGuard Plus, automatic virus screening, 2 GB of disk space and full DNS management features.
Yahoo!'s Web hosting and email plans also received significant upgrades. The $11.95 hosting plan now offers 39 times more disk space and five times more bandwidth. Enhanced email features included with the hosting plan include additional email addresses and 2 GB of storage per account, an increase of nearly 80 times. Yahoo!'s Business Mail plan, priced at $9.95 per month, includes double the number of email addresses and 2 GB of disk space, an increase of nearly 80 times.
Yahoo! also announced the launch of Yahoo! Custom Mailbox, a domain-based email product for individuals who want a personalized email address. The offering is priced at $34.95 per month.
