The company, which is expected to release a re-organization plan next week, is apparently prepared to change its name to MCI in order to reflect it’s restructuring and renewed vision, according to a report published today in The Wall Street Journal. Quoting sources close to the company, the report said officials expected to announce the name change upon filing a plan to emerge from bankruptcy protection next week.

Meanwhile, a report from the Associated Press said Worldcom would announce that it was moving its corporate headquarters from Clinton, Miss. to Ashburn, Va. at the same time that it announced the name change. The move is perceived to be largely symbolic.

Worldcom reportedly declined comment on both issues. The company has experienced a great deal of financial trouble in the wake of the telecom downturn and Worldcom’s well-publicized accounting controversies.
