Quoting a Microsoft spokesperson, Netcraft said the number of requests to Windows Update was double the usual volume. The same source said the slowdowns “did not last very long” and that performance was just about back to normal.

Netcraft said Microsoft appeared to be accommodating the traffic increases by using the Digital Island content delivery network operated by Savvis Communications (savvis.net).
