WHMCS, Radix Give Away More Than 2K .Host Domains Under New Program

Over 2,000 .host domain names have been registered in the first 5 days of a program offering them for free for the first year, WHMCS announced Thursday. The program is offered by WHMCS in partnership with .host registry Radix, and is intended to establish hosting providers ahead of the curve in the domain WHMCS CEO Matt Pugh sees as evolving into a signature of the industry.

The program was unveiled to WHMCS clients on Feb. 18, with high quality three- and four-letter domain names available, according to the companies. Initial analysis shows a high volume of primary brand domains being registered, along with keyword-rich domain names, according to WHMCS.

“We were excited to work with WHMCS and the scale of the partnership gave us the opportunity to build an offer that would really appeal to their customers,” Sandeep Ramchandani, Business Head at Radix said in a statement. “We’re really happy with the outcome and foresee a very healthy uptake and renewals.”

Landrush for .host began in August 2014 with high demand, and it hit general availability the following month.

New gTLDs are selling well, but not overwhelmingly, according to a recent report by Verisign. That could change, as research released this week suggests that domain registration demand is significantly pent up.

Recently, .cloud hit general availability, seeing strong interest in the US and Germany.
