It was back to business this week, the first week of the new year, and the first week following a holiday break for many in the hosting business. The week saw a range of news, including a kickstarter effort to fund a new open-source hosting control panel, the news that a supermodel will appear in this year’s Go Daddy Super Bowl ad and another chapter in the Megaupload saga.

Kim Dotcom Claims Megaupload Search Warrants Unlawfully Obtained by US Government

January 4, 2013 — Megaupload has submitted a filing to the US District Court on Wednesday that claims the US government misled the court when it used planted evidence to get search warrants.

Free Open Source Hosting Control Panel Neon Seeking Funding Via Kickstarter

December 31, 2012 — A project to develop a free, open source hosting control panel is seeking $10,000 in funding via a Kickstarter project launched on Friday, December 28, looking to the hosting providers who might use the completed software to help back its creation in one of a few instances of crowd-funding efforts to emerge from the hosting business in the last year.
