September 10, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Streaming solution provider Webstreaming.com (Webstreaming.com) said on Tuesday that it, along with Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Ethicon, has delivered a 90-minute simulated live Web cast to over 50 UK consultants, demonstrating a colorectal surgical procedure.

Webstreaming.com says this was the first time Johnson & Johnson has used this delivery method to allow consultants to view the Web cast from wherever they were based, eliminating the need to travel. The process also involved an archived version to which consultants can refer.

A password-protected micro-site was created for the demonstration, including a chatroom facility to allow the surgeon performing the operation to answer questions about the procedure, equipment and techniques in real-time.

The operation was filmed and passed to Webstreaming.com for encoding and delivery at a specified time. The ?simulated live? approach offered the demonstration a high level of interactivity. The majority of invitees watched the whole Web cast.

“The feedback has been exceptional,” says Andrew Quinn, director of marketing at Ethicon. “Usually this type of demonstration would involve consultants taking up to a day out of their busy schedules and planning it in weeks ahead. Now we can deliver the latest surgical techniques to our surgeons with little more than a click of a mouse with immediacy previously only dreamt of. We?ll be using this technology again in the future!”
