January 6, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Website Source (websitesource.com) says it has deployed the Cisco Guard XT 5650 and Detector XT 5600 DDoS Mitigation Appliance, and increased the streaming media resources in all its hosting plans.

Stephanie Rosendahl, CEO of Website Source, said the Cisco deployment, part of the company’s larger effort to enhance its network security, will help its hosting customers combat the threat of distributed denial of service attacks.

The company’s increased streaming media resources will enable customers to stream up to 100 concurrent streams, and now includes 500MB of storage space, up from 100MB previously.

“We have seen an increase in high-traffic Web sites that need the capability for streaming media,” says Rosendahl. “This increase in resources will better accommodate those Web sites and, now more than ever, our clients will be able to create high-quality audio and video for the Internet. We have been pleased to offer this service to our customers since 2002.”

Website Source offers streaming media, available with all its hosting plans, using the Helix Server from RealNetworks.

Earlier this week, Web hosting provider The Planet Internet Services also deployed the Cisco Guard XT 5650 DDoS Mitigation Appliance.
