August 30, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The Web site for the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City will be down for up to two weeks as a result of a hack attack, information technology manager Allan Ballew told the Kansas City Business Journal.
Ballew says a hacker gained unauthorized access to the EDC server and completely took it over. He believes this was done to get free bandwidth and to prevent transmissions from being traced back to their IP addresses.
The EDC says that because of the attack, it is talking to Web hosting vendors about hosting its Web site.
