(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Open source web server developer NGINX announced on Monday that it has partnered with content delivery network operator Jet-Stream, through which Jet-Stream will integrate NGINX technology in an effort to deliver enhanced CDN services.

NGINX, the commercial organization, was founded earlier this year by Igor Syosev, the original author of the software. It is one of the key investments of Runa Capital, the tech investment fund that includes former Parallels CEO Serguei Beloussov and other major hosting industry players and alumni.

The NGINX software is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to the traditional web server platforms. According to the company, it currently powers 25 percent of the 1,000  busiest websites in the world.

According to Monday’s announcement, Jet-Stream will integrate NGINX’s open-source version into its software suite, says the announcement, while incorporating certain proprietary extensions and added controls, while NGINX itself develops commercial extensions to the open-source tool, enabling the product to be fine-tuned for CDN environments.

The companies say Jet-Stream will use high-performance NGINX edge nodes to deliver multiple gigabits of outbound traffic per physical server, improving the performance and reliability of the platform.

“NGINX is the best-performing and most flexible caching solution on the market,” says Stef van der Ziel, founder and CEO of Jet-Stream, quoted in the press release. “Our technologies and philosophies of innovation are highly complementary, and provide us with a unique opportunity to change the market by providing advanced solutions to our customers.”

Along with using NGINX technology, and offering an integrated product to the market, Jet-Stream will employ the services of NGINX, the organization, to implement and maintain the combined offering. NGINX will provide Jet-Stream with access to its sales channel and referral sources.

In October, NGINX announced that it had partnered with Java platform-as-a-service cloud operator Jelastic, which similarly incorporated the NGINX technology into its platform.
