October 5, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Overall Web server market share remained very steady over the last month, undergoing little change, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft’s (netcraft.com) October Web server survey. Apache remained on top at 67.92 percent market share, gaining 0.07 percent over last month’s mark.

Microsoft dropped slightly, from 21.14 percent market share to 21.09 percent. SunOne and Zeus also lost ground, both losing 0.03 percent.

Web server market share has been relatively unchanged since November of 2003, Netcraft said, with the market shares of leading platforms Microsoft and Apache showing no dramatic changes.

Netcraft’s monthly Web server survey measures Web server software usage on all Internet connected computers. The October 2004 survey received responses from 55,388,466 sites. In the last month, Apache added 704,000 sites and Microsoft added 174,000, Netcraft said.
