(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — As November draws to a close and the holiday shopping season reaches a heated fervor, web hosting firms are rallying to offer web hosting services when customers — especially online retailers — need them most. Among the deals announced this week are PEER 1′s e-commerce hosting discount, Blacknight’s cheaper domains, HostV’s disk space double, and Internode’s business-class broadband discount.
UPDATE: Web host Exabytes Network (www.exabytes.com) has issued a Black Friday promotion on its shared hosting plans, providing saving of up to 90 percent off regular price. According to Exabytes, the promotion ends Monday, November 30.
PEER 1 Launches Discounted E-commerce Hosting Bundle
In time for the “Black Friday” holiday sales scramble, web host PEER 1 Network Enterprises (www.peer1hosting.co.uk) launched a new dedicated hosting bundle to help e-commerce customers cash-in on the Christmas rush for less than half the regular price. For less than £400 (about $660) per month, customers have access to a web server and a DB Server for PCI compliance with SAN managed backup for both, as well as a fully managed dedicated firewall, advanced monitoring enabling proactive server management, a SSL certificate for added security, and bi-weekly vulnerability scans and reports on possible improvements
Blacknight Announces Pre-Christmas Domain Sale
Irish domain registrar and hosting provider Blacknight (www.blacknight.com) has announced end-of-year offers on domain names. Before January 1, customers can register a .mobi domain with Blacknight for €6.75 (about $10), a .im domain for €4.95 ($7.40), and a .be domain for €2.99 ($4.50).
HostV Marks Thanksgiving by Doubling Disk Space
Managed virtual private server and dedicated server provider HostV (www.hostv.com) has doubled disk space and backup space on all of its hosting plans without raising prices. It plans to complete all disk space upgrades by the end of the month, and introduce several other significant service upgrades, including an enterprise backup solution, before the end of the year.
VPS Hosting from HostV starts at $39.99 per month for 50GB of disk space and 1,000GB of top-tier data transfer. All accounts include full support for video hosting, free data backups, and HostV’s premium customer support. HostV’s hybrid servers starting at $149.99 per month for 300GB of RAID-10 protected disk space and 5,000GB of monthly data transfer.
Internode $1,000 special marks Extreme expansion
Australian broadband company Internode (www.internode.on.net) has unveiled a $1,000 special as it rolls out its high-speed symmetrical broadband service, Extreme SHDSL. Internode is offering a 10 megabit-per-second Extreme SHDSL (Symmetric High-speed Digital Subscriber Line) service with a monthly 100-gigabyte download quota for $1,000 a month. As well as doubling the download quota of its standard Extreme SHDSL plan, Internode’s special waives a $2,000 installation charge for customers who sign up for a 24-month term.
Staring in the first quarter of 2010, Internode will be more than doubling its current Extreme SHDSL coverage to extend the service to more than two dozen key business exchanges including seven new exchanges in Adelaide, six more in Melbourne and four more in Sydney.
