A still from a video demonstration of the OneClick SSL being deployed via cPanel
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed web hosting and hosted IT solutions provider Turnkey Internet announced late last week that it had launched a new service, TurnKeySSL, designed to boil the SSL certificate issuing process down to a single step for its customers.
The traditional SSL certificate issuing process (the one used by the company up to this point), says TurnKey, is a multi-step process that includes the creating and sending of a certificate signing request, email communication with the SSL vendor and the installation of the SSL certificate itself.
The company says its new service, available via a separate website at TurnKeySSL.com, replaces that process with a “one click” deployment, saving administrators and business operators time and money.
It is not described in detail in the press release, but rather than operate a CA itself, TurnKey seems to be a reseller of GlobalSign’s domain-validated OneClickSSL product – it repeatedly uses the term “OneClick,” and it uses a GlobalSign branded video to illustrate the deployment process.
GlobalSign’s OneClickSSL enables a domain-validated SSL cert to be issued with a single click to hosting providers or website operators who have installed a plugin created by the company.
It isn’t totally clear from either the press release or the TurnKeySSL site whether the company is adding any technical or procedural innovation on top of the GlobalSign plugin. However, the marketing and branding effort is evident, bringing the product within the scope of the company’s “turnkey” services.
“Having offered basic SSL certificates with the traditional process since our inception in 1999, the ‘TurnKey’ approach to OneClick installation of SSL certificates is a game changer,” said Adam Wills, CEO of TurnKey Internet, Inc. “Our partnership with industry leader GlobalSign lays the tracks for this industry-leading technology, allowing us to provide point-and-click, military-grade encryption services to small and mid-sized businesses, on time and within budget.”
In May of this year, TurnKey Internet launched an infrastructure-as-a-service cloud hosting offering.
