(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In an effort to provide customers with low cost, unlimited online storage for customer data, managed hosting provider PEER 1 Hosting (www.peer1.com) has launched CloudOne Storage, a scalable cloud storage product for web hosting customers.
Built on EMC’s Atmos storage platform, CloudOne provides flexible, pay-as-you-go online storage for data files and rich media from $0.15 per GB per month. Customers can upload, store and manage unlimited data through a web-based control panel or the standards-compliant Application Programming Interface for file management and application deployment.
“APIs have enabled organizations to create an open architecture for sharing content and data between communities and applications,” PEER 1 Hosting product development vice president Tim Varma said in a statement. “In this way, content that is created in one place can be dynamically posted and updated in multiple locations on the web and, in the case of CloudOne, stored in locations of their choice. Add to this the access our customers have to free bandwidth on the PEER 1 SuperNetwork and the opportunities CloudOne presents over and above its competitors are clear.”
PEER 1 first announced its Atmos-based platform late last year, whetting existing customers’ appetite for a unified cloud-based storage solution. CloudOne provides free bandwidth for data transfer to and from servers and storage through the globally load balanced, highly redundant SuperNetwork 10GB backbone, as well as FirstCall Support.
“Customers want universally accessible storage, but they also want to stay in control of their data and choose where they can store it as well as setting the levels of redundancy,” Varma concluded. “CloudOne is engineered to overachieve against all of these requirements within a single solution and to offer customers the PEER 1 service guarantee on top. This product is another example of PEER 1 Hosting’s commitment to delivering hosting services based on best-of-breed technology to our customers at the best price.”
EMC Atmos is a multi-petabyte solution for information storage and distribution, which combines massive scalability with automated data placement to help efficiently deliver content and information services around the world. Last month, cloud storage client developer Gladinet (www.gladinet.com) launched Cloud Attached File Server (or CloudAFS), a new access platform for EMC Atmos cloud storage, enabling small to medium-sized businesses to attach Atmos storage to their existing file servers, creating a cost-effective multi-tiered storage solution with low migration impact and faster backup or restore times.
