(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Web4Africa (www.web4africa.net) announced on Monday that it had acquired 100 percent of the client base of Naira host, a web hosting provider with services focused on Nigeria.

Visitors to Nairahost’s website are greeted with a bulletin that briefly describes the acquisition, and says, “Nairahost customers would be briefed about the transition shortly through a broadcast email.”

According to the announcement, Nairahost was founded in 2004 with the goal of dominating the web hosting industry in Nigeria through offering “intelligent business solutions in an efficient manner.” As of the acquisition, Nairahost was an accredited registrar of the .ng domain, and managed a portfolio of “a few thousand domains.”

The acquisition will boost Web4Africa’s current customer base of more than 8,400 clients to about 11,500, after accounting for an overlap of clients. It will increase the company’s domain portfolio to more than 8,000 and domains hosted to more than 4,000.

The press release did not reveal any specifics about the cost of the acquisition.

Web4Africa says the acquisition enlarges its market share, as well as introducing lower prices and a greater selection of domain name extensions to customers of Nairahost. It plans to manage Nairahost as an independent entity until it merges the two organizations early in 2011.

“This acquisition offers an improved service delivery to Nairahost customers,” says Oluniyi D. Ajao, managing director of Web4Africa, quoted in the press release. “It would offer us a stronger foothold into the vibrant and dynamic market in Nigeria. The acquisition is noteworthy because no merger of operations on this scale has happened before, in the African web hosting industry.”

Web4Africa, founded in 2002, says it provides web design and hosting to clients worldwide. Judging by its website, the company appears to place particular emphasis on Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. The company says it is “Ghana’s number 1 web host,” as measured by Webhosting.info.
