(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Web.com (www.web.com) announced on Tuesday that it now offers a solution to enable businesses to create a custom Facebook page.

“With more than 500 million active users, an effective Facebook presence is no longer a luxury for small business, it’s becoming a necessity for many,” David L. Brown, chairman and chief executive officer of Web.com said in a statement. “But a meaningful presence on Facebook one that represents your brand accurately and professionally takes effort and resources that a small business person may not have. Web.com can be a small business’ social media creative agency, helping them create a Facebook fan base and maximize those relationships to drive sales.”

Web.com says that in addition to designing a professional Facebook page it will create content that effectively represents the business and highlights special offers. It also will refresh the page monthly to maintain engagement with customers.

In a recent blog post, Web.com says that Facebook pages are a key component to any small business’ online marketing strategy but will not replace a website.

In February, the similarly-named hosting provider Webs.com acquired custom Facebook page builder Pagemodeo. Pagemodo provides small business owners with customized Facebook pages, making the deal another example of a hosting company treating Facebook as an opportunity to introduce new services, rather than a potential threat.

According to the Web.com press release, research suggests that 60 percent of Facebook users “like” a page to learn more about products and services offered by the company.

Web.com says its Facebook Company Page services start at $40 a month.

In August, Web.com acquired domain registrar Register.com.

Earlier this year, security firm Symantec partnered with social commerce firm Adgregate Markets to offer SSL certificates and the VeriSign Trust Seal to customers of ShopFans, a Facebook application for creating ecommerce stores within the social networking platform.
