Colocation and managed hosting provider ViaWest (www.viawest.com) announced on Monday that it had acquired SingleEdge (www.singleedge.com), another colocation and managed hosting provider based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Key to the acquisition was the data center facility operated by SingleEdge, which ViaWest says gives the company a total footprint of seven data centers in the Greater Salt Lake City area, totaling approximately 120,000 square feet of raised floor space.

In October of this year, ViaWest announced the acquisition of three data centers in Salt Lake City belonging to colocation provider Consonus.

“SingleEdge has demonstrated strong growth and a high level of customer satisfaction,” says Roy J. Dimoff, ViaWest’s chairman and CEO, quoted in the press release announcing the deal. “Following the completion of our acquisition of Consonus, we felt that acquiring SingleEdge would solidify our emphasis in this region and best position ViaWest to meet the growing demand of the Utah market.”

According to the announcement, SingleEdge operates a 14,700 square-foot data center facility and has 14 employees.

ViaWest’s attention seems to have been focused on expanding in the Utah area – between the SingleEdge acquisition, and the previous Consonus deal, particularly – since the appointment of Bob Newman as senior vice president and Utah general manager in August.

Newman, who has been overseeing the integration of the Consonus assets since that deal concluded, will work closely with SingleEdge president Chris Call on integrating the company into ViaWest’s operations.

“We are very pleased to be joining ViaWest. The acquisition will offer both our customers and our employees significant growth opportunities,” says Call, quoted in the announcement.

Following the acquisition, ViaWest now operates 20 data centers in a five-state area that includes Colorado, Texas, Utah, Nevada and Oregon.
