(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider and Verio Inc. subsidiary Verio Europe (www.verio.co.uk) announced on Tuesday that it had named Hideyuki Yamasawa its managing director.

Yamasawa, according to the press release, “will succeed Kiyoshi Maeda who was named president and CEO of Verio Inc. in 2005.” Yamasawa also succeeded Maeda as CEO of Verio Inc. in October, at which time he was also made a member of the company’s board.

The precise nature of the role is a little muddy, owing in part to the slightly confusing organizational structure of the company itself (Verio Europe is a subsidiary of Verio Inc., which is a subsidiary of the Japanese company NTT Communications, which has several other subsidiaries). But since both roles seem to have previously been held simultaneously by Maeda, it seems likely that the role at Verio Europe is a regular part of the CEO’s role at Verio.

Due to the holiday this week, it has been difficult to reach people at most companies, and I have yet to hear back from Verio about this announcement, but the details are by no means indecipherable.

Tuesday’s announcement from Verio Europe mentions Yamasawa’s role as CEO of Verio Inc., though not the fact that it happened more than a month ago. It also repeats some of the content from that release – in the sections describing Yamasawa’s background with NTT – verbatim.

He comes from NTT Communications, where he most recently was head of the General Affaris department, in a career with the company that has stretched over more than 20 years.

In the new roles with both Verio and Verio Europe, Yamasawa will be responsible for the company’s strategic directions, and “will oversee all business operations for both Verio and Verio Europe,” says the release.
