January 6, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider The Planet (theplanet.com) announced on Wednesday it has opened its newest Tier-1 data center at Infomart in Dallas.

The new facility has 51,000 square feet of space, including a 35,000 square-foot data center and offices for 50 new employees The Planet plans to hire within the next 90 days. The expansion brings the company’s total worldwide footprint to more than 150,000 square feet.

The data center, secured with a 10-year lease, offers more than 25Gb of connectivity across a 10-carrier network and houses The Planet’s Server Matrix, Total Control and new FOCUS series of servers. The Planet began outfitting the new facility, named DLLSTX5, on January 1, 2005, and expects to begin initial operations within the next several weeks.
