Web Host The Planet Joins Tumblr, Kickstarter, and SoundCloud to Host SXSW Meet-Up

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — During Austin’s South by Southwest (www.SXSW.com) Interactive Conference, a Saturday night Tumblr (www.tumblr.com) event will draw together many web entrepreneurs and professionals in what is quickly becoming an important event for online industries.

IT hosting provider The Planet (www.theplanet.com) will be the title sponsor of March 13, meet-up at Emo’s Austin, one of the city’s premier music venues, beginning at 6:30 pm. Participating companies include music distribution platform SoundCloud (www.soundcloud.com) and artist funding platform Kickstarter (www.kickstarter.com). “With so many Tumblr users in Austin for SXSW, this group event is a great opportunity to get together to hear feedback and bounce around new ideas,” said Tumblr President John Maloney. “We’re coming off a milestone month with more than 1 billion pageviews, so it’s a terrific opportunity to celebrate with our users and The Planet, which provides the infrastructure for our service.”

Originally an Austin, Texas, music festival, SXSW has grown over the past 23 years to include film, and interactive elements, and is now known as one of the largest launchpads for web and tech-savvy entrepreneurs bringing new creative content to market.

“SXSW offers us the opportunity to meet up with our customers, and to showcase new products and capabilities,” The Planet global sales vice president Tom Blair said in a statement. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Tumblr, one of our largest customers, and to work side-by-side with Kickstarter and SoundCloud, who embody precisely what SXSW is all about – innovation, entrepreneurship and emerging social media technologies.”

From March 13 to 15, The Planet will be at booth 303-305, showcasing its hosting solutions, Partner Plus program and project Sand Castle, which offers free servers to web developers. The Planet will also be accepting applications on-site for its Microsoft WebsiteSpark program, with a year of free hosting given to a winning applicant.

Houston-based The Planet is also gold sponsor of Houston@SXSW, a wrap party for the interactive conference that showcases Houston-based tech startups, filmmakers and musicians.
