(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web host The Planet (www.theplanet.com) has partnered with Dallas Data Center (www.dallasdatacenter.com) to provide colocation services to Dallas Data Center customers who require less than a full server cabinet.
Many data centers require that customers rent a minimum of half a cabinet, which poses a problem for many companies that only require space for a typical 2U server. Dallas Data Center addresses this problem with its “Colo By The U” offering, which provides secure and scalable data center space for customer equipment without minimum cabinet-size constraints.
According to The Planet’s Tuesday announcement, colocation space for customers who need less than a full cabinet will be provided by The Planet’s Plano, Texas, data center through The Planet’s recently updated Partner Plus Referral Program.
“Many businesses want to manage their own IT environments, and recognize that office closets or servers under desks are no place for critical company data,” Dallas Data Center chief executive officer Tim Freeze said in a statement. “Colo By The U caters to customers who are tech-savvy enough to manage their own servers, but may not have enough hardware to fill an entire cabinet. We chose The Planet as our partner to deliver our services, and our customers reap the benefits of a world-class data center that provides 100 percent uptime and a robust network, all within a cost-effective model.”
Located in north Dallas, the facility housing the Colo By The U service opened in 2009 and has 106,000 square feet available for colocation services, and offers a world-class SAS 70 Type II-audited colocation environment with high network speed and bandwidth capacity, as well as local and remote network operations centers, support services, and high power-density.
“Company data, from customer and financial information to strategic databases, is the lifeblood of any business,” The Planet channel sales manager Drew Jenkins said in a statement. “As more companies worry about how to secure that data, they look to providers like The Planet that offer data centers with 24/7 protection and redundant power. By partnering with Dallas Data Center, we’re able to offer these benefits to an even broader set of customers.”
