(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT hosting provider The Planet (www.theplanet.com) announced on Monday that it has begun offering two new Cisco Firewalls to its product catalog, providing enhanced server performance and security within the company’s dedicated server and virtual and private rack product lines.

The new Cisco ASA firewalls join several other Cisco firewall products already offered by the company, according to the chart on its firewall server solutions page.

The Planet says the Cisco ASA 5505 Security Plus, priced at $139 per month, “vastly improves performance” for dedicated customers in comparison to the CheckPoint XU firewall, offering 100 Mbps of throughput and supporting 25,000 concurrent sessions.

Virtual and private rack customers will have access to the ASA 5510 Unlimited firewall, for $220 per month, which the company says is ideal for complex server needs and low network traffic. It offers 100 Mbps of throughput at the lowest price point among the company’s complex infrastructure firewalls.

The Planet says its advanced services team sets up, configures, monitors and maintains all its firewall solutions.

“At The Planet, we develop our product roadmap with a keen eye not only on new technologies, but also on customer requests,” says The Planet’s general manager of complex infrastructure Bryce Edwards, quoted in the press release. “In evaluating customer responses to our product portfolio, two preferences stood out loud and clear: Our dedicating hosting customers wanted a more robust, high-performance firewall; and virtual and private rack customers were looking for a reliable and cost-effective firewall solution.  With today’s announcement, we’re delivering on both with new additions from Cisco, a trusted technology partner and industry leader in server security. Our global customer base can now better protect their server environment with enhanced security options.”

Last week, we posted a Q&A interview with Urvish Vashi, general manager of The Planet’s dedicated hosting line, discussing the launch of the company’s new London data center.
