Web Host SunGard Adds Multi-Site High Availability to Enterprise Cloud Services

SunGard's virtual private cloud infrastructure

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider SunGard Availability Services (www.sungardas.com) announced on Monday it is now offering multi-site high availability as part of its standard offering, helping customers to reduce cloud-based application downtime.

Announced at VMworld 2011, SunGard’s Enterprise Cloud Services (www.sungardas.com/cloud) use a fully redundant architecture includes two separate enterprise-grade cloud instances to provide “geographic load-balancing and facilitate customer achievement of an active-active environment,” said the press release.

The design improves SunGard’s existing Enterprise Cloud Services by providing customers with two geographically diverse production sites integrated with recovery capabilities, allowing for seamless cloud services continuity.

For cloud applications that do not require high availability architecture, SunGard’s Enterprise Cloud Services now also include a managed multi-site recovery option that offers a secondary cloud site for recovery.

Operational within four hours, this secondary cloud site provides a backup site in the event that the primary cloud site experiences an outage.

“Application availability is critical for organizations no matter what platform they are using and companies should not have to trade availability in return for the financial and scalability gains of moving to cloud computing,” said Rob Walters, vice president of product management of SunGard Availability Services. “The SunGard cloud is inherently redundant, but with these enhancements, SunGard Enterprise Cloud Services customers can now expect even greater availability assurances for applications hosted in the cloud.”

The improved SunGard’s Enterprise Cloud Services also includes additional managed services for the cloud, including the ability to interconnect customer applications running on SunGard’s Enterprise Cloud Services with physical environments hosted in SunGard data centers.

This capability allows customers to share data from legacy systems that still require dedicated hosting with cloud environments. The connectivity can be done within the same site or managed between multiple sites.

SunGard has also added Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Active Directory and Hosted Blackberry Services to its portfolio of integrated managed services for cloud environments.

These services provide customers with active management by SunGard hosting staff to help ensure production workloads are available and reduce their IT administration burdens.

SunGard’s Enterprise Cloud Services are built on best-in-class Vblock technology from VMware, Cisco and EMC, and are backed by service level agreements that help ensure nearly 100 percent cloud infrastructure availability.

The company provides multi-tenant enterprise cloud and dedicated private cloud services for production applications.
