November 22, 2005 — Web host and Web-based collaborative technologies developer SolidSpace (solidspace.com) announced on Monday it has launched a new podcast hosting service for radio stations throughout the nation.
SolidSpace debuted its podcasting capability in a partnership with Greensboro, North Carolina’s WSMW-FM, an adult contemporary music station owned by radio network giant Entercom Communications.
WSMW, or “98-7 Simon,” has been posting as many as four to five podcasts from its weekday morning drive-time program “The Wicker Show” since late summer. Topics include comedic parodies, interaction with listeners and hilarious man-on-the-street stunts. The content is forwarded through links to SolidSpace, which hosts the content in its Winston-Salem, North Carolina data center.
“The software-as-a-service format isn’t just the wave of the future – it’s here, and podcast hosting is just a natural extension of the benefits thousands of other corporate users are leveraging worldwide,” says Jim Capps, president of SolidSpace. “Our podcast hosting service gives radio stations the ability to do what they do best – create content that drives listenership and advertising dollars – and leaves the back-end processing to us.”
