(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web host SoftLayer announced on Thursday that its revenues reached $85 million in the third quarter, and has appointed David Strohm, from Greylock Partners, to its board of directors.
SoftLayer says it has achieved $34 million in EBITA in the third quarter ending September 30, 2011. In Q3 2011, SoftLayer expanded into the Asia-Pacific and European markets, via Singapore and Amsterdam, respectively.
Recently, SoftLayer was named the fastest growing company in the Dallas area by the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship.
“Our growth is fueled by increased customer demand for our entire portfolio of hosting solutions,” said George Karidis, chief strategy officer for SoftLayer. “Our approach resonates with customers because we offer an à la carte menu of service and options resulting in greater flexibility and control over IT resources while reducing operating costs. With our new data centers in Singapore and Amsterdam, we’ll be able to drive even more international revenue and sales.”
Strohm, from Greylock Partners, will provide guidance for SoftLayer’s growth plans. According to the press release, Strohm joined Greylock in 1980 and currently sits on the board of AtHoc, Bounty Jobs, EMC Corporation, MATRIXX Software, OpenDNS, Progreso Financiero, richrelevance, Tabula and VMware. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Harvard Business School.
“SoftLayer is headed on a pretty impressive trajectory but we’re really just beginning to accelerate our efforts,” Lance Crosby, chief executive officer for SoftLayer said in a statement. “The addition of David to our leadership team benefits us immensely, especially as it relates to managing growth and rapidly expanding into international markets. Our focus hasn’t changed. We’ll continue innovating and making our platform the standard for Internet savvy businesses looking for unique cloud, dedicated, and managed hosting solutions.”
