(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — On-demand data center services provider SoftLayer Technologies (www.softlayer.com) has integrated a solution from unified monitoring provider Nimsoft (www.nimsoft.com) to provide SoftLayer customers greater capabilities for managing their hosted environments, and increased performance and availability for their business applications.

According to Nimsoft’s announcement earlier this month, the Nimsoft Monitoring Solution now provides comprehensive visibility of infrastructure, services, customer views, and customer service levels for Softlayer customers. The highly secure, available, and scalable solution also provides full transparency through any application stack, as well as tiered monitoring levels to meet targeted business objectives and needs, robust APIs for extensive integration, and a lightweight, scalable architecture, no-touch deployment ideal for cloud environments.

“We believe in empowering our customers, and that means not only giving them complete control over their services but also giving them all the information they need to make informed decisions about their infrastructure,” SoftLayer chief operations officer Sam Fleitman said in a statement. “NMS’ robust capabilities enable us to adapt the solution to nearly any customer environment and provide detailed metrics with efficient, easy-to-understand reports.”

NMS’ extensive APIs can also provide seamless, bi-directional data communications with management applications, such as configuration management databases and service desks. This tight integration between NMS and customers’ management environments, as well as between NMS and SoftLayer’s automated deployment and operations process, provides the ability to quickly scale a service to tens of thousands of servers.

All SoftLayer customers will receive the same, standard-level of monitoring, which, according to the company, includes automated alerts and reporting on critical health indicators. They also have the option to upgrade to more comprehensive database, application, and infrastructure service monitoring.

This announcement is the latest in the evolving relationship between SoftLayer and Nimsoft. In May, SoftLayer began offering NMS as the standard monitoring platform for its managed hosting customers, helping them increase the performance and availability of hosted business applications.
