Web Host SoftLayer Offers Sample Code for Windows 7 and Mac OS X Apps

API 3.0 uses SoftLayer’s network-within-a-network topology

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider SoftLayer Technologies (www.softlayer.com) announced on Wednesday it has recently released sample code for Windows 7 and Mac OS X apps for monitoring SoftLayer server information.

According to the press release, the sample code “showcases the versatility and robustness of the company’s open application protocol interface.”

The Windows 7 Desktop Gadget and Mac OS X Dashboard Widget are great examples of the creative solutions that are possible with our comprehensive API,” says Stephen Johnson, director of interface development for SoftLayer. “It features more than 100 fully-automated provisioning and management services that accommodate the needs of both casual developers and serious IT professionals—truly unleashing the power and flexibility of cloud computing. The automation and control is all there, just waiting for the innovative ways our customers will choose to use it.”

SoftLayer customers can use the API to create custom applications or control processes of any size, desktop gadgets to large-scale, infrastructure management workflows that automatically add servers to an environment when demand peaks.

The API supports the use of SOAP, REST, and XML-RPC interfaces, says the company. Additionally, it can fully integrate with any third-party or custom application, as an open, standards-based platform.

The company says that it has included more details on the SoftLayer API and implementation guidance through the SoftLayer Development Network, as well as its blog, wiki, and forums.
