(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Web hosting provider SingleHop (www.singlehop.com) announced on Monday that it has launched its new cloud hosting platform, Cascade.
This move comes less than a week after SingleHop announced its partnership with Host Merchant Services.
SingleHop says its new platform is the final step in its strategy to combine the benefits of traditional dedicated server hosting and cloud computing technology in a “new and better system”.
The company first announced its plans to launch Cascade in spring 2010.
Cascade combines the flexibility of the cloud with the reliability of traditional dedicated servers into one platform, according to SingleHop.
“Cascade is a game-changer for the dedicated server segment of the market,” Zak Boca, SingleHop’s president and CEO said in a statement. “Until now, cloud computing and dedicated servers were mutually exclusive concepts. Cascade is the first product that successfully combines the benefits of dedicated servers with the flexibility of a cloud service. No compromises.”
SingleHop will offer Cascade as an add-on service for its managed and unmanaged dedicated servers.
“Users of traditional dedicated servers enjoy dedicated resources at a fraction of the cost of cloud hosting, but without the ability to easily scale resources up or down,” said SingleHop chief operating officer, Andy Pace. “Cascade offers the best of each technology by retaining the flexibility of cloud computing and cascading it onto traditional dedicated servers, an engineering solution that is easy to use and understand. Furthermore, Cascade allows dedicated servers the self-healing benefits of cloud computing where users have their dedicated environments, but no longer experience downtime with hardware failures. We’re very excited about this innovative approach.”
SingleHop says Cascade users will be able to make real-time adjustments by instantly migrating their hosted solution to a more powerful server when needed.
Cascade servers can be administered through SingleHop’s LEAP management system. It is offered as an upgrade to nearly all of SingleHop’s dedicated and managed hosting solutions for a monthly fee of $40 per server.
In March 2010, the WHIR did a Q&A interview with SingleHop co-founder and vice president Dan Ushman when the company launched its Tandem reseller program.
