(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Rackspace announced on Monday via its blog that it is offering Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 for free with its cloud servers for Windows.

According to the post, Microsoft Visual Studio is an Integrated Development Environment that ensures quality code throughout the application life cycle.

Rackspace is only giving away 250 copies, but it is interesting that it is offering support to Windows developers. Rackspace is showing its support of the developer community through this marketing initiative, as well as its ongoing support of OpenStack.

Visual Studio 2010 offers an integrated environment where developers can code, debug, unit test, and deploy a growing number of application types, according to the press release.

Rackspace says Visual Studio 2010 has integrated support for test-first development as well as new debugging tools for multi-core programming.

According to Rackspace, this offer is available for new cloud servers for Windows customers. It is an $800 piece of software that Rackspace says works well with the Rackspace Visual Studio 2010 plug-in for the Rackspace cloud.

This offer comes a few weeks after Rackspace named Karl Pichler its chief financial officer.
