Web Host Rackspace Names Former eBay Exec as COO

Mark Roenigk, Rackspace's new chief operating officer.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Rackspace Hosting (www.rackspace.com) announced on Tuesday it has named former eBay executive Mark Roenigk as its new chief operating officer.

The announcement follows the October appointments of six new key executives at The Rackspace Cloud, the company’s cloud computing division.

Roenigk, who joins Rackspace from online retailer eBay, will report to Rackspace president and CEO Lanham Napier.

In this role, Roenigk will help Rackspace employees deepen the culture of service to provide an expanding customer base with the company’s Fanatical Support, a 24-hour customer support facility.

“Mark will help build the computing platform on which all our services will run, including our managed hosting, cloud and applications businesses,” says Napier. “His focus on quality, reliability, scalability and cost will mean that we can provide our industry-leading Fanatical Support to a broader range of the market.”

Prior to the appointment, Roenigk held the role of chief procurement officer and vice president of operational excellence at online auction site eBay.

During his term at eBay, he was responsible for the implementation of a company-wide operational excellence program in order to improve the customer experience along with achieving financial efficiencies.

Previously, Roenigk served in XM Satellite Radio as senior vice president of operations with supply chain and global procurement responsibilities.

He was also the president of supply chain operations at Intuit and general manager at Microsoft.
