Citrix XenDesktop is one of the solutions compatible with Rackspace's virtual desktop platform
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Rackspace (www.rackspace.com) announced on Tuesday that the EMEA launch of its hosted virtual desktop platform.
Launched in the US in March 2011, Rackspace’s hosted virtual desktop platform can be used with desktop virtualization solutions from Citrix, NetApp and other channel partners.
According to the press release, the service allows customers to host their virtual desktops on a choice of dedicated or cloud-based infrastructures.
The Rackspace hosted virtual desktop is able to provision thousands of virtual desktops quickly with instant desktop cloning, according to the press release.
With on-demand virtual desktops, users can deploy applications on any device.
“Hosting virtual desktops with Rackspace allows companies to reduce deployment times of upgrades and new desktop infrastructure while reducing capital expenditure,” David Kelly, UK MD and SVP of International, Rackspace said in a statement. “Simultaneously, this will allow companies to free up IT resources for more critical internal business operations.”
According to the press release, the platform combines Rackspace’s hybrid cloud offering, Rackconnect, with its “fanatical” support. RackConnect allows users to deploy a virtual desktop that uses a private cloud – effectively addressing security and compliance concerns while enabling the management and control of servers.
