Web and cloud hosting provider Rackspace recently introduced its new Rackspace Advisory Services to help enterprises with migrating to a cloud computing model.

As enterprises take on the complicated task of moving to a cloud computing model, they must decide which applications or platforms to transition to cloud computing, as well as prepare for the transformation that their internal IT departments will undergo.

The new Rackspace Advisory Services will provide the detailed intelligence and insight necessary for enterprise customers to complete their strategic IT vision, while providing Rackspace with another value-added recurring revenue stream.

The new service comes a few months after the launch of Rackpace Cloud: Private Edition, which is designed to provide enterprise customers with Rackspace managed services and support for OpenStack-based cloud deployments within their own facilities, or in their own private data center environments.

Backed by Rackspace’s dedicated enterprise architects, Rackspace Advisory Services provides “Fanatical Support” during the strategic IT planning process to offer unbiased recommendations for migration to the cloud.

As part of the program, Rackspace is offering IT Evolution Workshops in which Rackspace enterprise architects collaborate with a business’ IT leadership in a strategy meeting to develop a cohesive plan for moving forward, with concrete action items, and a detailed roadmap for how and when to implement the company’s IT strategy.

The IT Evolution Workshops provide an opportunity for  Rackspace’s enterprise architects to explore the customer’s current environment and pursue best-fit solutions, including public cloud, private cloud and RackConnect hybrid cloud.

Cloud Readiness Assessments are detailed, customized reviews allowing Rackspace Advisory Services team members to work with enterprise IT groups to evaluate applications in an organization’s existing infrastructure.

Rackspace enterprise IT architects review a customer’s current application portfolio and through consultative sessions and multi-dimensional analysis, they provide concrete recommendations for cloud adoption.

So far, 76 leading corporations participated in Rackspace IT Evolution Workshops during the final months of 2011 and 19 more have already participated in 2012.

Talk Back: Are you a Rackspace cloud customer that is considering taking advantage of the Rackspace Advisory Services? Would you consider offering technical consulting services as an add-on to your own cloud hosting services? Let us know in the comments.
