(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider NaviSite announced on Tuesday that it has launched a set of enhancements to its AppCenter cloud management portal, designed to provide customers with increased security, visibility and control for their enterprise applications.
Acquired earlier this year by Time Warner Cable, NaviSite is a service provider in the traditional managed hosting mould, with some specialized offerings around “enterprise-class hosting,” cloud hosting, application services and other managed services.
According to Tuesday’s announcement, the enhancements to AppCenter are tied to some of the functions the company considers “integral to a successful enterprise cloud deployment,” and brings new flexibility to their management. NaviSite says it works closely with customers to address those requirements.
“These latest enhancements to AppCenter will help customers accelerate the deployment and ease the management of their cloud environments,” says Denis Martin, executive vice president and chief technology officer at NaviSite. “Our primary goal is to simplify the management of these increasingly complex IT environments.”
The press release lists the new features, which include user interface adjustments to allow for more flexibility in the assigning of IT roles and processes within the cloud environment. Administrators are able to add and remove users and define roles and responsibilities, as well as assign varying levels of access to cloud resources.
New, advanced cloning capabilities will provide users with more options and settings when cloning groups, subgroups and individual VMs, simplifying and speeding the creation of test, training, development and production environments.
New resource instrumentation tools enable users to control how resources are allotted to higher-priority applications at a more granular level, enhancing the inherent flexibility of cloud hosting solutions.
The Airlock Import Facility gives NaviCloud the ability to load VMs that were created elsewhere.
And the new tool supports a broader range of SSL certificates, adding new supported CAs, as wll as the PEM and PFX formats, designed for use in different platforms. It also allows for the management of SSL certificates through the tool.
In November, NaviSite expanded its services set, announced that it would be distributing Oracle software licenses to its ISV customers.
