(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Latisys announced on Monday that it will build a second data center in the Denver area to double the Latisys footprint in Colorado.

This announcement comes on the heels of Latisys’ appointment of Randal Thompson to chief sales officer.

According to the press release, the new data center will be located in Englewood, Colorado and exceed 82,000 square feet on a 6.5 acre campus.

DEN2 will have an initial 14 megawatts of power and will add 10 megawatts in the next phase of development. The data center has access to a variety of fiber networks as well as fiber connectivity back to Latisys’ existing 76,000 square foot data center.

Latisys says it will deploy colocation, security, network, hosting and cloud services at the new data center in Q3 2012.

“We are expanding our Denver presence to build on our organization, know-how and momentum in the market,” Pete Stevenson, Latisys CEO said in a statement. “We continue to execute on our plan to deliver the infrastructure-based IT Outsourcing solutions that mid-size and enterprise customers require—for the challenges of today, and for tomorrow.”

This data center joins Latisys existing facilities in Ashburn, VA, Irvine, CA, Chicago as well as Denver, which is Latisys claims is only minutes away from the DEN2 location. Latisys added a second data center in Irvine in September.

“This investment is not only important for Latisys; it’s a significant capital investment in the Denver market. By adding a state-of-the-art data center and enhancing our high-availability hosting and cloud platform, Latisys is addressing a critical need for companies looking for a provider that can deliver flexible, end-to-end IT solutions,” Bryan Walsh, Denver regional sales director, Latisys said in a statement. “Development of our second facility reinforces our commitment to providing agile IT infrastructure outsourcing for Colorado customers in all phases of their business.”

According to a report by denverpost.com, Latisys will spend $50 million developing its new data center. The report says that the project will create between 50 to 80 construction jobs in the area, and once the data center is open, an additional 20 people will be added to its team.

“Latisys’ investment in the Denver market is another sign of the strong momentum we have seen that Colorado is a great place to do business,” Su Hawk, president of the Colorado Technology Association said in a statement. “Companies can feel confident that Colorado is committed to providing a healthy infrastructure and business environment to support today’s technology creators and users.”
