Web Host iWeb Launches Shared Hosting Company Funio

Funio will offer shared hosting and domain services Funio will offer shared hosting and domain services

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Web hosting provider iWeb (www.iweb.com) announced on Tuesday that it has launched a new company to consolidate all shared hosting and domain name reservation activities, Funio (www.funio.com). According to the press release, these services will no longer be offered by iWeb as iWeb focuses on developing its dedicated servers.

iWeb says the service supports more than 15,000 clients, 23,000 websites and 32,000 domain names in more than 100 countries around the world.

“I firmly believe that shared hosting must benefit from all the attention of a team of professionals exclusively dedicated to the development of the product,” Eric Chouinard, iWeb president and chief officer said in a statement. “Funio will seize this opportunity to innovate and add value to the products as well as the tools that enable their delivery. In past years, iWeb has invested a lot of time and resources into its ‘Smart Layer’ technology and dedicated servers.”

“iWeb will pursue deploying all its efforts in this direction in years to come, thus standing out through this innovation. However, the moment has come to provide our shared hosting customers a dedicated company who will take care of delivering the best out of the service,” he added.

As part of this announcement, iWeb has named Sylvain Leclair, formerly iWeb’s CDO and VP of sales and marketing to the position of president of Funio.

Leclair says Funio has a “lot of work to do” before finalizing the transition, but its priority is to add value to the shared hosting services by offering better support and tools to allow customers better control.

“Moreover, in the next year, Funio will add many new features to raise the value of the services received by the shared hosting customers. We will rethink our infrastructure, including the domain name management system who will undergo a long due facelift,” he added.

According to the press release, iWeb and Funio will work closely until Funio can take over independently, which is scheduled for early 2012.
