A video still from Mozy's website shows its backup service
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Web hosting provider Intermedia (www.intermedia.net) announced last week that it has partnered with Mozy (www.mozy.com) to create a new online backup service for small- and medium-sized enterprises. The new service will launch this week and is the company’s first “foray into backup,” according to a report by Information Week.
According to the report, this move is Intermedia’s part of its increased focus on data protection and security.
The new service is part of the company’s “beyond the mailbox” strategy that combines recent product launches including encryption, hosted PBX with unlimited domestic VoIP telephone service and unified communications.
Jonathon McCormick, Intermedia’s chief operating officer told Information Week that this product is the first that focuses on data protection for the mobile user.
This product will “be an increasingly important differentiation strategy for hosted Exchange providers,” according to the report.
“Exchange is at a point where, over the next couple of years, you’ll see more and more commoditization of the market,” McCormick told Information Week.
According to the report, pricing starts at $5 per machine, per month for 4GB of storage. Intermedia will sell additional storage in 10GB increments for $5 per machine, per month.
Intermedia says it manages more than 300,000 premium Microsoft Exchange mailboxes.
