(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Web hosting provider Intermedia (www.intermedia.com) announced on Tuesday that it has launched a mobile app, HostPilot, for provisioning and managing cloud services.
According to the press release, the app works with Android, iPhones and other platforms to provision and managed hosted exchange, online backup and mobility.
Mobile apps have emerged as a convenient, free value-add for hosting customers to manage their accounts. Most recently, Joyent and Stackmob launched mobile app for backend and cloud hosting platform.
Intermedia says HostPilot provides a single point of control so technical administration can be delegated to non-technical staff.
HostPilot enables administrators to perform transactions from their mobile devices such as creating new Exchange mailboxes, resetting passwords, wiping a user’s mobile device, adding or removing users from a distribution list, enabling secure instant messaging, accepting or rejecting end users’ requests to access additional services, backing up a mailbox or checking service status notifications.
“Just like cloud services should be mobile, so should cloud control panels,” Manlio Carrelli, CMO, Intermedia said in a statement. “Our customers can securely access Intermedia cloud services, such as email and voice, through any of the various devices they rely on – from smartphones and tablets, to their home or work computer. Now, they can do the same with HostPilot via our mobile app.”
Intermedia is offering the HostPilot app for free, and says it is easy to set up. It is available to current Intermedia customers using Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010.
