Microsoft Lync allows users to update availability and location
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Intermedia (www.intermedia.com) announced on Monday that it has launched Microsoft Lync, the instant messaging and conferencing service.
This announcement comes a month after Intermedia started offering Microsoft Exchange services.
According to Intermedia, Lync is available as a standalone product or as part of Intermedia’s “Office in the Cloud” suite of plans.
Intermedia says Lync is available for Mac and to Intermedia’s reseller partners.
Lync is a cloud-based instant messaging, conferencing and collaboration service. According to the press release, users manage instant messaging, voice chat, video chat, meetings and shared whiteboard sessions from their PC.
Lync integrates advanced web conference tools, and is useful for organizations with more than one office or remote employees.
Users can manage Lync and other Intermedia cloud services, like Exchange, through Intermedia’s HostPilot Control Panel.
According to the press release, Lync is a secure way to chat with coworkers. Employees can chat using the Lync PC and Mac client, or directly in Outlook.
Lync allows users to choose between a wide range of availability indicators, and since it integrates with Exchange, the indicators (like busy, away and do not disturb) automatically update depending on users’ calendars and activities.
Lync also enables desktop sharing, one-click scheduling directly from Outlook and a virtual whiteboard presentation tool.
