(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Web hosting provider Intermedia (www.intermedia.net) announced on Thursday that compliance templates for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act are now available as part of its email encryption service.
According to the government website, the act protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information and sets national standards for the security of electronic protected health information. Intermedia says healthcare firms can use its templates to encrypt protected health information, or “any personal health information that can be linked to a specific individual and includes any part of the patient’s medical record or payment history.”
This additional feature has been introduced recently after Intermedia partnered with Mozy to create a new online backup service for small- and medium-sized enterprises. The company’s most recent moves are part of its increased focus on data protection and security.
“Healthcare firms deal with sensitive information and have strict regulatory requirements to safeguard that information,” Jonathan McCormick, Intermedia’s chief operating officer said in statement. “The challenge is that managing email and HIPAA compliance in-house creates serious cost and complexity implications. With Intermedia’s integrated offerings, healthcare firms can outsource their email and configure it to help assure HIPAA compliance. This saves on costs and better protects patient data.”
According to the press release, the templates offer a set of pre-determined compliancy code sets, keywords, and policies. Intermedia says it will update the templates automatically on a quarterly basis to account for any changes made to the various policies.
Intermedia’s encrypted email and its HIPAA templates are available for resale by its private label partners.
