(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT security provider Commtouch (www.commtouch.com) reported on Tuesday its recent case study reveals that Web hosting provider Hostway (www.hostway.com) is experiencing success with the implementation of Commtouch’s outbound spam protection.

Hostway provides cloud hosting, managed hosting, shared hosting, colocation, domain name registration, and ecommerce solutions to over 1.4 million websites and 600,000 customers worldwide.

The case study showed that Hostway is using Outbound Spam Protection as an internal security measure to review all outbound mail traffic.

Since using Commtouch’s outbound spam protection, the the company has been able to identify compromised and phished accounts, as well as “trickle spam” that otherwise couldn’t be detected because it was below set rate limits.

Blocking outbound spam in real-time with Commtouch’s solution has prevented Hostway from being blacklisted by major ISPs.

“Spammers were using phished accounts to send spam out from our network, so we were looking for a solution to recover compromised accounts, block spammers and prevent our IP addresses from being blacklisted,” says Todd Benjamin, Hostway executive vice president. “Our Commtouch inbound solution was working so successfully for us, we naturally turned to Commtouch for outbound spam protection.”

Commtouch says its outbound spam protection can |prevent customer loss, damage to service providers’reputation and brand, operational cost increases and even potential lawsuits caused by spam, malware and phishing emails emanating from their networks.”

The solution allows service providers to stop these unwanted emails, as well as provide immediate sender identification to resolve the problem at its source.
