(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider HostICan (www.hostican.com) announced on Monday that its new data center, located just outside of Richmond, Virginia, has been designed specifically with energy efficiency in mind.
The company moved into the newly built data center, a remodeled warehouse, which it began constructing in April.
The company says it is pledging to cut down on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions by making every possible upgrade to the facility.
The facility is positioned towards the west to cut down on heating costs, while all the windows are covered with energy-efficient shade screens that are programmed to adjust according to sun exposure.
“We are aware of the negative impact large companies have on the environment, says HostICan president and CEO Denis Motova. “We are also aware of the positive changes large companies can make and the impact that has on the environment. This is why we have taken immense steps from how our new facility was build to how it functions. Even the smallest steps make a difference, for example call center monitors go directly into power save mode when [they are] not in use, we have motion censored lighting throughout the building and we use recycled products whenever we are able. This way we are sure that we are functioning in a responsible and more resource-efficient environment. This is what we strongly believe and this is something that we hope our customers like to see as well.”
HostICan says it also uses a range of other energy efficient techniques, such as virtualization, automation technologies and unified storage, which uses less power.
