January 19, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider and domain registrar Go Daddy (godaddy.com) announced on Wednesday that it had opened a new office of government relations and named Martha Johnston its director. The office will address identify theft, spyware, ICANN and other technology topics.
“Go Daddy feels an obligation to protect our customers and represent their interests,” says Bob Parsons, founder and president of Go Daddy. “It’s an obligation we share with lawmakers and federal officials, so it is important that we be in Washington, as a base of Internet knowledge for Capitol Hill, the Executive Branch and Federal Regulators.”
Prior to joining Go Daddy, Johnston was director of legislative affairs with the Federal Communications Commission. She has worked for several Senators and was a part of President George H.W. Bush’s administration.
“I’m proud to represent the leading company in this vital, rapidly-growing industry,” says Johnston. “The issues are complex, challenging and unprecedented in their scope. They affect all of our personal and business communications.”
