(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet services and hosting provider Dotster (www.dotster.com) has chosen to deploy business-class open-source collaboration software Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) for its email users, giving them advanced email and collaboration features at no extra charge including the ability to integrate contact information from Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks.
According to its Tuesday announcement, Doster customers will benefit from Open-Xchange’s Software-as-a-Service email and personal information management. Open-Xchange also lets Dotster customers access AJAX-based interface anywhere they have access to a browser and an Internet connection, and synchronization is possible with Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, native Mac applications iCal and Address Book, as well as most popular smartphones, including iPhone, Nokia and Windows Mobile.

Open-Xchange’s recently introduced “Social OX” features give users the ability to consolidate any kind of existing webmail accounts. For instance, a Gmail and a Yahoo Mail account can be managed as a single folder in Open-Xchange. As well, contact details from social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Xing can be added automatically to the Open-Xchange address book, giving users easy access to the latest contact information within their personal network.
