A video still of Verne Global's construction of its Icelandic data center
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Data center developer Verne Global (www.verneglobal.com) announced on Wednesday that it web hosting provider Datapipe (www.datapipe.com) will deliver managed IT solutions and cloud services from Verne Global’s Icelandic data center.
This announcement comes a few weeks after Datapipe announced that its cloud is PCI certified.
Verne Global’s 45-acre campus in Keflavik, Iceland is 100 percent carbon neutral, according to the press release, and draws power from Iceland’s hydroelectric and geo-thermal power grid. It also uses Iceland’s temperatures to provide free cooling. Datapipe will be the facility’s first tenant when it is completed.
Datapipe will use the facility’s subsea connectivity to provide clients in London and New York with disaster recovery, business continuity and cloud computing solutions.
“Verne Global has engineered an environmentally sustainable data centre that will enable Datapipe to expand into a new market while continuing our environmental leadership,” Robb Allen, CEO of Datapipe said in a statement. “Power and cooling efficiencies combined with the strategic geographic location will provide our clients with an option for carbon neutral, enterprise ready IT services and a 100 percent green cloud.”
According to the press release, the partnership contributes to Datapipe’s commitment to being a leader in sustainable IT. Datapipe says all of its data centers are powered with renewable energy. The company has been recognized by the US Environment Protection Agency’s Green Power Partner Leadership Club, and the New Jersey Business and Industry Association’s Award for Excellence in the Environmental Quality category.
“The industry continues to move toward environmentally sustainable solutions to power data centres. Datapipe’s leadership in this area is one to be applauded,” Jeff Monroe, CEO of Verne Global said in a statement. “The source, availability and cost of power remain one of the primary concerns for data centre operators around the globe. Verne Global addresses these concerns for our customers by bringing the benefit of dual-sourced, 100 percent renewable and affordable power to the European and North American data centre markets.”
Google recently opened up its Scandinavian green data center in Finland. Its facility uses seawater for cooling.
