Bluehost may win some Apple MobileMe customers with its step-by-step YouTube tutorial on migrating from MobileMe to Bluehost
Web hosting provider Bluehost has launched a video with instructions on how to migrate websites from MobileMe to a Bluehost hosting account.
Apple announced last year that it would discontinue its website publishing tool iWeb and hosting service MobileMe to make room for iCloud. MobileMe will no longer be available after June 30, 2012.
While Apple is suggesting MobileMe users transfer to iCloud, several web hosts have taken it as an opportunity to win new customers. In April, Mac ISP and web hosting provider MacAce launched the beta of its MacMate web hosting solution in an effort to win Apple’s MobileMe users. In an interview with the WHIR, MacAce CEO Gary Hall says there are about 250,000 sites hosted with MobileMe.
Bluehost has used videos in its marketing initiatives before, and has a regularly updated YouTube channel with instructional WordPress tutorials, Bluehost tutorials, and other general videos answering questions like what is an ecommerce store. The WHIR included Bluehost in its roundup of 5 cool videos for hosting customers in March.
The MobileMe migration video on YouTube features a technician guiding users through the process, click-by-click. Bluehost is supplementing its video with a blog post and help center article.
“MobileMe users are Apple users, so they’re accustomed to powerful, simple products,” Bluehost marketing manager, Paul Mosley said in a statement. “We’re big Apple fans at Bluehost and we feel that a helpful, concise, and well-produced video goes a long way to making things easier.”
Bluehost says its support staff is trained on the nuances of migrating MobileMe sites, and is available 24/7 by phone, email and chat.
